Conscious sedation dentistry, where a patient is sedated to the point they can still breathe on their own and respond to commands is offered by 97 percent of dentists, according to a survey by dental management resource The Wealthy Dentist.
Many of the dentists surveyed said that conscious sedation produces less worry among their patients, and the increased peace of mind means patients get dental care who otherwise would not.
"These days, patients with dental anxiety have a lot of options for practically anxiety-free dentistry," said Jim Du Molin, dental marketing expert and founder of dental website The Wealthy Dentist.
